Working on a building site or an industrial workplace can be extremely dangerous. This is due to the amount of unsafe equipment which is made available on the site. It is likely that you may come across heavy loads and to move this load will have to use lifting gear. Using lifting gear should make your job easier and safer; however it is important that you know how to use the lifting gear safely, otherwise accidents can happen.

It is extremely important that health and safety polices in the workplace are always followed. If any of these policies are updated, all staff should be informed of the update and make themselves comfortable with the new policies in place.

Training

All lifting gear can be different, so it is important that you familiarise yourself with the different types of lifting gear. Before you or your staff uses the lifting gear, you should ensure that the person is fully trained to use it. Lifting gear can be extremely dangerous if you do not know how to use it properly. If you are unsure yourself how to use the lifting gear, then it is possible for you to hire someone in to your business to train you and your staff to use it in the future. However, if you believe that you are not going to need lifting gear regularly, you can hire a person and the lifting gear to come and do the job for you.

If you will be using motorised lifting gear, the person in charge of this should be trained on how to use the equipment. Motorised lifting gear can be different so it is important that you take a chance to get yourself familiar with the equipment so that you use it safely.

Safety Clothing

When on a construction site, it is necessary that you wear your safety clothing at all times. This includes a hard hat, steel toe capped boots, and a visibility jacket. If you are using lifting gear, it may be appropriate to wear gloves and goggles as it will give you the protection you need.

Site Manager

You should always have a site manager on site. This will allow someone to instruct people on what they should be doing. A site manager should also over look what people are doing and ensure that people are doing their jobs safely, this will ensure that no accidents or injuries happen on site.
